| In 2008 I ran the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K. I was out of shape, 50lbs heavier than I wanted to be, and unhappy in my skin. During that race I saw women, of all shapes, sizes, ages and colors, running together for the Cure. The women in "Breast Cancer Survivor" T-shirts touched me.
If they could be strong and healthy while fighting cancer then what was my excuse? Since then I have lost 50++ pounds and found an addiction to running. I ran my first Marathon the Seattle Rock N Roll Marathon June 2009. This year I will Go Pink and Race for the Cure. This is my chance to give back to Komen for the Cure for helping me find my health and to HOPEFULLY beat breast cancer.
Aspire to Inspire,
Melanie

| Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.
In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Over the past 26 years, we have invested more than $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. And because millions of people are counting on us to fulfill our promise, we have pledged to invest an additional $2 billion by 2017.
Our promise is to end breast cancer forever. Will you join us?
