| HOW WILL KICK FOR A CURE IMPACT THE DMD COMMUNITY IN SAN DIEGO AND BEYOND?
Kick for a Cure is a San Diego-based charity organization whose goal is to raise funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Our mission is to positively impact the lives of children and young adults with DMD who live in San Diego and beyond. Our Charity Soccer Tournament & Festival is our signature fundraising event. Through the support of soccer players, organizations and private donations we are able to raise money to fund the following projects:
I. Our primary beneficiary is Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD). PPMD is the largest grassroots organization that is entirely focused on DMD. Their mission is to improve the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for all individuals affected by DMD through research, advocacy, education and compassion.
Kick for a Cure supports PPMD's mission by donating a large portion of our proceeds to their organization.

II. We will sponsor local families of children with DMD to attend PPMD’s Annual Conference.
The PPMD Annual Conference is a one-of-a-kind conference where families, scientists, doctors, and educational specialist from all over the world come together to talk about progress in the care and treatment of DMD. We believe that families are best served when they are armed with the most current knowledge which we feel only PPMD can provide. A portion of funds raised at Kick for a Cure will be used to purchase conference registration fees, plane tickets, and hotel accommodations for parents who would like to attend the conference, but who may be financially unable to do so.

III. We wish to fund programs and services that will benefit children and families in San Diego.
Examples of such services may include sponsoring service dogs and therapeutic horse-back riding lessons, or other services that are deemed necessary. Upon expansion we wish to support residential accommodations such as building customized ramps for wheelchairs and remodeling bathrooms.
We believe that no matter what, all children and young adults with DMD must always feel at home.
ONE LAST NOTE • Oftentimes PPMD is confused with the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).
• We fully applaud the commitment of both entities but we would like to make sure you know the difference between the two.
• PPMD focuses on research, education, and advocacy and focuses exclusively on DMD.
• The MDA, which is often associated with the Jerry Lewis Telethon, is a national health organization that services over 40 neuromuscular diseases (including the muscular dystrophies).
Though separate entities, PPMD and MDA do work in collaboration on certain DMD focused issues. |
