| I feel honored to be racing to raise money for Code 3 For A Cure. Code 3 assists firefighters financially that are going through cancer.I have been a firefighter for over 8 years and want to help fellow firefighters in need.I am going to be running the Donna 26.2 marathon on February 17th in my bunker gear (Pants, jacket, helmet, and airpack) to raise money for a good cause. I'd like to share with you some troubling statistics and ask for your help. Firefighters have: 102% greater chance of contracting testicular cancer 53% greater chance of multiple myeloma 51% greater chance of non-Hodgkin lymphoma 32% greater chance of brain cancer 28% greater chance of prostate cancer 39% greater chance of skin cancer 21% greater chance of colon cancer 22% greater chance of stomach cancer *This is from a three-year study completed in 2005 by the University of Cincinnati. I completed the Florida Ironman on November 3rd wearing my bunker gear during the marathon portion. I have also ran 2 half marathons and 5k in gear. I want to be an example of hope for firefighters going through cancer and to remind them to never give up!! Any donation is appreciated. |
