Thanks for visiting. Running the marathon was definitely something I never thought I would ever attempt. But I wanted to challenge myself to do something big. It's one of those "life goals" that I will hopefully get to check off come November 7th. But it also provides me an opportunity to try and raise a little bit of financial support for something important to me.
I am running to raise money for the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS). My life has been touched by many friends and family who have beaten, are fighting, or were overcome by cancer. I am very thankful for the position we are in today that allows those with cancer to live longer, fight stronger, and recover faster than was ever previously possible.
NCCS was created to address the issues related to living with, through and beyond a diagnosis of cancer. NCCS tackles the issues that affect cancer survivors' quality of life — issues such as access to care, patients' rights, cancer research funding, clinical trials and care at the end of life. NCCS understands these issues because as survivors and loved ones of people with cancer, they've been there.
I chose them after talking to friends and family about what organization to sponsor. There are many wonderful organizations out there. NCCS is smaller and focuses on many more personal and experience related issues that larger organizations do not. I encourage you to read through their website and learn more about them at http://www.canceradvocacy.org.
I will also proudly be running with my LIVESTRONG bracelet, supporting the similar efforts of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Thanks to everyone for your support. I'll be looking for you on the sidelines. If you're looking for me, I'll be the one running and I'll also be wearing a number. If you would like to follow my training, head over to www.justrunit.com. |
