| This race is a very special event to the 52 members of this team. Together we are racing to raise awareness and support the efforts to find a cure for Type 1 - Juvenile Diabetes. What makes this race special to our team is why we have chosen this event to support this worthy cause.
Last year while competing in the Cohasset Triathlon, Joe Lyons suffered a fatal heart attack in the swim leg of the race. Joe was the father of Sam, now 8 who has been living with the disease since he was 2 years old. Joe was a champion for the cause, and believed in the possibility of finding a cure if not in his own lifetime, then hopefully in his son’s lifetime. He was a loving dedicated father and husband. He believed in giving back and having an impact on the greater good. Those that knew him know he had a smile that could light up a room, and a laugh to match.
On June 29th, Joe's wife Karen, along with the 52 members of Team Lyons will compete in the Cohasset Triathlon to finish the race for Joe and continue his quest to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. We will also give Sam another chance to be proud of his dad as we follow in his footsteps. Joe did not live to see the cure, but his spirit is strong and with us. Please support us in honoring a very special man and his dream by helping us achieve our goals.. We can think of no greater tribute.
