ABOUT THE CAUSE
Welcome! Quick explanation of the name: it is trendy these days to say you "heart" something, and surely you've seen those "I heart NY" tshirts. Well, why not "LUNG" something instead? Read on....
My name is Cadence Kuklinski and I am the dietitian for the Lung Transplant Program at St. Louis Children's Hospital. I have been working at SLCH for about 2.5 years, and I love my job. The people are great and the kids are fabulous. And I LUNG Running! I have been running for 11 years, and the GO! St. Louis Marathon on April 6 will be my 2nd marathon. I wanted to run for a cause this time, and wanted a cause that is close to my heart--or in this case, my lungs!
As you may or may not know, organ transplants are not cheap! Nor are they free. That's where you come in! The SLCH Foundation has a special fund just for the lung transplant program. This money is used in many different ways to help the children and their families who are transplanted here at SLCH. Insurance rarely covers the entire cost, and medications and follow up appointments are required for a lifetime. Every little bit helps! I am asking people to donate on a "per mile" basis to make this a little more fun and interactive. Surely you can spare $2.62 if I can run 26.2 miles!

Way To Go, IL Residents!
The state of IL is said to have the largest organ donor list in America! This is due, in part, to the new first person registry system, which allows IL residents to sign up online to be organ donors. This online sign up is legally binding, where as with previous programs next-of-kin had to give consent. Read the article here, and then use the link at the bottom of the page to sign up if you haven't already!
