Dear friends,

I am participating in the July 12-13 Seattle to Portland (STP) bicycle race to raise money for Ivory Coast Medical Relief Team (ICMRT). This money will be used to acquire and supply free of charge long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets to pregnant women and mothers of children under 5. Insecticide-treated nets save lives by protecting against mosquitoes, which are responsible for transmiting malaria.

Catching malaria in sub-Saharan Africa is as easy as catching the common cold (a child has on average between 1.6 and 5.4 episodes of malaria each year). However, unlike the common cold, malaria kills. Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria in Africa. In the Ivory Coast 128,000 children under 5 die of malaria each year.

At a cost of $10.00 a net, ICMRT will purchase deliver, train community health workers to educate and promote mosquito net usage among pregnant women. I am hoping that you will Join me in this fight by donating to ICMRT. ICMRT is a 501c(3) organization; your contribution is tax deductible.
