Making Strides Toward the Cures

Just before my first team hike. Note the no sweaty.
When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.
-- Audre Lorde

Determination is a vital factor in making anything happen, whether it’s forcing your way through writing an essay, or taking small steps in the trying to change the lives of cancer patients.

When my friend Jasona told me about Hike for Discovery, I was a little intimidated by the goal. How could I possibly raise $3,700 dollars? In three months? And train for a challenging hike at the Grand Canyon?!

But I made the choice to join, and I am determined to meet my goals in fundraising and training.

Hike For Discovery is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's adventure fundraising program. Funds go to help cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Hike for Discovery and help advance the Society's mission of bringing hope and support to these people.

Donates $25 dollars or more and receive a six page, 4"x5" chapbook of my art and poetry!

Thanks for your support!

We should be taught not to wait for inspiration to start a thing. Action always generates inspiration. Inspiration seldom generates action.

Updates:

Aug 30: I would like to Honor Norma Jean Smith with my hiking. Thank you for donating Dave.

Aug 16: I'm halfway there in my training, but still have a way to go raising funds!

July 15: I've been out of town, and so training on my own. More difficult and less fun than training with the team.

June 30: 11 a.m.: First group hike. I'm feeling good but tired -- must remember to bring sunscreen next time.
9:40 p.m.: My first donation! Thank you Margie!

June 28: My first team training day. I have been walking everyday on the road outside my house (which has some pretty intense hills), but it was great to finally get together and meet the team leaders and some of the other great people who are participating. We also learned some training techniques, and got fundraising ideas. :)
