Hike For Discovery is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's adventure fundraising program that prepares people to experience a natural wonder in a special way.
The money I raise will fund grants so that doctors can continue to do research and will help pay for patient services such as support groups and financial assistance to families who have been affected by these horrible diseases.
As you may know, blood cancers kill more children in the United States than any other cancer and strike even more adults. This year in the US, it is estimated that 110,960 new cases will be diagnosed; 55,100 patients will die.
I will be hiking many miles over the next five months, but I’m not worried about that. I can do the training myself, with help from my coach & teammates, but I need your help to reach my fundraising goal. Every dollar you donate is tax deductible, and at least 75% of your donation goes directly toward research and patient services. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a 503.c3 nonprofit organization.
Our team is hiking in honor of Caleb McNitt, a 12 year old boy who was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) when he was ten years old, and subsequently spent 161 days in the hospital. Thanks to services provided by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Caleb never spent a night alone; his parents were able to take turns staying with him. Caleb is now a typical basketball playing, swimming, boisterous 12 year old boy who has been in remission for 18 months. Three years is the “cancer free” mark for AML, and on that day, Caleb and his family will have a big party! I
If there is anyone that you know or love who has been a victim of cancer, and you would like me to hike in their honor, let me know; I would be privileged to do so. While I'm training, I'm raising funds to help the Society cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. Your support of my participation in Hike For Discovery will help bring them hope and support.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Hike for Discovery and help advance the Society's mission. I hope you'll visit my web site often, so that you can see how my training and fundraising efforts are going. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
