Maya Larson's Fundraising Page!

On June 24, 2006, I will be hiking in Yosemite National Park as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's new adventure fundraising program. Although it is a 6 to 8 hour day-hike, I am required to carry all of my own water (nearly 10 lbs.), food and other essentials. Over the four months leading up to the event, I will participate in over a dozen training hikes and raise at least $5,000 in donations. I will brave blisters, sore muscles and hilly climbs to prepare for the hike because I believe that I can make a difference in the fight against cancer.

For the past few years, I have participated in the Society's annual Light the Night Walk in Washington, DC. Two years ago, my friend Alison raised money and walked with me even though she was preparing to undergo treatment for a recurrence of Hodgkin's disease, a form of lymphoma. Tragically last fall, Alison lost her battle with the cancer. I am participating in this event to honor her memory and her generous spirit.

While I'm training for the hike, I'm raising funds to help the Society cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers right now. Your support of my participation in this event will help bring them hope and support. Together we can help beat this disease!
