Help Make A Difference
Welcome to my Hike for Discovery home page.
Hike for Discovery is a fundraising and hiking program that benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease and melanoma; it improves the quality of life for patients and their families
On June 9th, 2008, I will take part in the Hike for Discovery at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. During my 3 months of training, I have committed to raising $4000 to support the Society's mission.
In June 2007, my father-in-law was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor). Just 4 years earlier a drug called Gleevec had been approved by the FDA for the treatment of GIST. Research for this drug was mainly funded through the Society's dollars. At the time of his diagnosis, my father-in-law was immediately started on Gleevec. This wonder drug has kept his cancer in remission, and extended his life beyond any of our expectations. This hike is in honor of my father-in-law, and a way for me to give something back to the Society.
I need your help in reaching my $4000 goal. Every dollar you donate is tax deductible, and at least 75% of the money goes directly to the Societys research and patient services departments.
Your contribution can help save lives. Join in my effort to make a difference.
Thanks for your support!
