Making Strides Towards The Cures
Dear Friends:
It's a beautiful summer and I am taking advantage of it because I’m busy training for a fall hike in the Grand Canyon. Over the next four months, through rain or shine, I'll be hiking many, many, many miles--and steep miles at that--to prepare for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Hike For Discovery," a Grand Canyon adventure that will take place on October 14th.
Hike for Discovery is a nonprofit endurance training program that benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. However, I've set my sights higher than just training to hike into the canyon. I also aim to raise at least $3,900 to help find a cure for blood cancers, such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin's disease. The money I raise will pay for support groups, educational programs, and financial planning for afflicted families.
While in college, I vowed to do something "big" to help the world; by the time I turned 25. For the past couple of years, I've been searching for a program that was: a.) for a great cause and b.) an awesome adventure. When I found Hike for Discovery, I immediately knew that this was my Everest.
This is where, I'm hoping, you come in. Though I can do the training, I need your help to reach my fundraising goal. Every dollar you donate is tax deductible, and more than 75 percent goes directly toward research and patient services. Think of it as an easy way that you are helping those involved in blood cancer research, those hoping for a cure or in honor of those you've known with a blood cancer.
My personal fundraising deadline is fast approaching so I encourage you to e-donate (or send a check if you're not comfortable) your 100% tax-deductible contributions by August 1. Also, please contact me (shannonradecki@msn.com) regarding, company matching.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
Best,
Shannon Radecki
