Welcome to my Hike for Discovery home page.
Hike For Discovery is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's adventure fundraising program that prepares people to experience a natural wonder in a special way. My roommate Donna and I will be participating in a challenging hike into the Grand Canyon!
While I'm training, I'm raising funds to help the Society cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. This cause is especially important to me. My Aunt Donna died from leukemia when she was just 8 years old. She was a special girl with so much potential and I will be hiking in her honor. More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. Your support of my participation in Hike For Discovery will help bring them hope and support.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Hike for Discovery and help advance the Society's mission. I hope you'll visit my web site often, so that you can see how my training and fundraising efforts are going. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
A letter from my grandparents Pete and Earlene Petit:
So pleased that you will participate in such a worthy cause and that you mentioned Aunt Donna as having leukemia as well as hiking in her honor. I will pray that she will be with you as you hike the trails of the Grand Canyon. Your challenge is for a worthy and worthwhile cause- so many people can be helped and have already been helped either by the success of the research in finding the cause or by the actual new treatments used as a result of their work. Modern technology has come a long way since our experience with Donna- the only treatments back then were blood transfusions and they were only temporary and hopeless. Today, many cancer patients have been put into remission and even cured by todays' new drugs and treatments- thanks to the research your hiking will be funding. So- go for it, Leigh- am sending our check in support of your efforts to fund such a worthwhile cause.
May God bless you as you train for hiking and especially on the trails of the Grand Canyon. Looking forward to sharing your experience with use. We send our love along with our check.
Grandpa and Grandma and Teresa too!
