Tell Cancer to Take a Hike!

Welcome to my Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Hike for Discovery 2007 home page.

I just returned from my hike in the Rocky Mountain National Park, and while I'm still sore and tired, it was an incredible experience. Our team hiked 4,000 feet to the summit of Mount Lady Washington, which is 13,200 feet. It was a very tough, technical climb through snow and up a long, steep boulder face (we climbed 1,800 feet in one mile).

I hiked in memory of my nephew, John-John, my Godmother, Juliet, and my friend, Tricia. While they lost their battles with lymphoma and other cancers, they never lost their dignity, their hope, or their courage. Their bravery and optimism inspired me constantly throughout my hike. Whenever I was exhausted or winded from the altitude (or 60 mph winds at the summit!) I just thought of all that they had gone through and was motivated to keep going in their honor.

The hike was amazing, but what was more amazing was how much money we raised. The Illinois Rocky Mountain chapter raised $115,000 and the overall Rocky Mountain hike raised $750,000 to fight leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.

More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. I am so close to my goal and would love to beat it by as much as possible. Your support of my participation in Hike For Discovery will help bring hope, support, and a cure. Thank you so much!
