Simon's Mountain to Climb!

Striding and striving for a cure

Hello Friends. Welcome to my Hike for Discovery home page. Hike For Discovery is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's ( http://www.LLS.org )adventure fundraising program that prepares people to experience a natural wonder in a special way. In my case, I plan to train for, and ultimately climb 13,281ft. Mount Lady Washington, just East of Longs Peak in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park this coming June. The purpose of this climb is to raise money and awareness for the L.L.S., in order that they may continue their mission to fund research and patient/community service in the field of blood cancers. I do have a very personal reason in asking for your help. In late 2005, my friend Jennifer was diagnosed with leukemia. For twenty months she battled and fought the cancer and suffered the subsequent treatments with dignity, poise and a stoicism that I know I couldn't match. I was so very fortunate to be able to work with her over several years in the promotion and expansion of the Philadelphia based non-profit artist collective, Positivespace. Her determination and focus helped that little organization redefine itself and push forward into the present day. She was, to paraphrase her long-time companion David, "a painter, musician, designer, scholar, technophile, esoteric retailer, patriot to nation and civilization (and) community organizer...she even had a garden." But the light that burned oh,so brightly, flared, flickered and then went out. On Thursday, May 17, 2007, Jennifer died. Our world lost. And that hurts. Currently, over 800,000 Americans suffer from some form of leukemia, myeloma, Hodgkins disease or lymphoma, Your support of my participation in Hike For Discovery will help bring them vital hope and critical support. We all have our mountains to climb, I guess. Mine happens to stand 13,281ft,and is more than likely capped in snow and ice. It also comes with a price tag and a deadline: $4000.00 BY MAY 01 (with seventy five percent guaranteed going to blood cancer research). I really need your help. I can't accomplish this alone. I wish I could, but I can't. Please make a tax-deductible donation to support my participation in Hike for Discovery and help advance the Society's mission. Be sure to check my site frequently to see my fundraising progress. Please make a donation. I don't want to lose another friend. Thanks for your support! Simon. (For Jennifer and all the fighters.)
