Fighting cancer...one step at a time

Me on the Old Logger's Path, PA
Welcome to my Hike for Discovery home page. What is Hike for Discovery? Hike For Discovery is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's adventure fundraising program that prepares people to experience a natural wonder in a special way. Why am I doing this? In the past three years, I have lost two special people in my life. My sister Dorothy and my Uncle Joe. Both were afflicted with cancer and both fought battles that moved me like nothing else in my life. I want to try and help! I do not want anyone else to go through what these two wonderful people had to endure. Nor do I want their families and friends to endure the anguish that the families and friends of Dot and Joe had to endure. What will I be doing? For the next 16 weeks, me and a group of others who want to help fight cancer, will undergo a training program that will take us on many small adventures that will culminate in an adventure of a lifetime. For me, that adventure will be a 12 mile hike to the top of Mount Lady Washington in the Colorado Rockies. The "Lady" sits at an elevation of 13,281 feet. The hike has a 4,000 ft. elevation gain so I will need all the training I can get. Where do you fit in? During these 16 weeks, I will need to reach a fundraising goal of $5,000. I won't be able to do this without your help. So please, I am asking that you donate whatever you can to this wonderful organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. Anything will be accepted but I am asking for at least a $25 donation. Most of us know someone who has been afflicted with cancer, let's please join together and fight this terrible disease. $25 is a small way to help. If you have someone that you would like me to hike in memory of or in honor of, please list the name when you donate. I will create a ribbon for that person, and bring it to the top of Mt. Lady Washington. Lastly, thank you for your consideration and generosity. I invite you to please check back into my website from time to time to check my progress as I will be updating frequently. God Bless You! John "Hope. Pray. And Don't Worry" (St. Padre Pio motto)
