Hiking for a cure

These boots were made for hiking!

Here I am again thrust back into fundraising due to a love of hiking and a urge to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society make a difference. Last year we trained and raisied a lot of funds in preparation for the Maui hike and that was so much fun I have decided to do it again. This time around I have been chosen to be the mentor for our group of hiking philanthropists. I am ready for the challenge!

Together our group is working to help make a difference in the lives of those affected by blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and those not yet affected, but whom some day will have to battle through these horrible cancers. As we train this winter every mile we hike, every hill we will climb and every ache and pain will have all been for a great cause. An estimated 785,829 American citizens live with these cancers and our goal is to make sure that they can live without them.

When a patient is sick to the point where they must be hospitalized for treatment the bills can be more than a $1000 a day with a stay of several days at a time. With this figure in mind you could imagine how the goal of $4,000 that I am trying to raise could seem like a drop in the bucket to someone with this disease or to a researcher who has dedicated their life to the research and treatment of these cancers. To you and I this may seem like a lot of money, but the truth is there is not enough money that could be given to this cause to cure every person afflicted and more needs to be done to further our understanding of these blood cancers and ways to combat them.

Every dollar and cent is tax deducible and will go to save lives. I can’t express enough how much your contribution will mean not only to me, but to the hundreds of thousands of people struggling day in and day out. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please donate what you can whether it be $10, $20, $100 or more, every little bit helps us to get closer to a day where we will hopefully be able to annihilate this menace.

Thank you so much
