| This is our son Evan. He is 1 of 17,000 hemophiliacs in the United States. Hemophilia is a rare bleeding disorder that affects the bloods ability to clot. This doesn't mean that Evan bleeds more or faster than someone without hemophilia, it means he bleeds longer.
Over the past year Evan has grown a lot. He has experienced many firsts...first birthday, first steps and first words. He also had his first hemophilia related hospital stay. In November, Evan suffered from a subdureal hemotoma (which is a bleed between the brain and the skull). It wasn't really until this happened that our family realized that hemophilia really is a journey, and that this is the very beginning of ours.
This cause is so important to us for many reasons. Most notably because it affects the youngest member of our family. However, growing with this disease has introduced us to many other wonderful children and families who suffer from hemophilia. And we have seen firsthand how the donations made through fundraisers like these to the Hemophilia Foundation help families of children with bleeding disorders. |
