Help Erica Walk
Thank You for visiting my site and sharing a minute with me. I was paralyzed from the chest down on New Year’s Eve 2005 from a tiny bleed inside my spinal cord. My goals are to recover fully and to share the challenge of Spinal Cord Recovery with thousands of people through my therapy, speaking, and sports. Thank You for contributing to my recovery. Your generous gifts go 100% to my recovery which consists of: My trainer, Lance, helps me do intense exercises 2 hours a day 4 days a week to repattern my legs and nerves to walk again. This includes upper body strength, core strength, standing at a ballerina bar, crawling, kneeling, and repetitions of leg workouts. $320 weekly. Kevin, my bodyworker does neurological release and reprogramming at the hemorrhage site 2 times a week. $200 weekly. Dr. George Rodriguez does acupuncture every week. $30 weekly. I drive myself to Anaheim 2 times a week for super walking therapy at Polfit. $448 weekly. This all totaling around $1000 a week! But it is all worth it and I would not be down here working my legs off otherwise. The Recovery Therapy has brought progress. I can coax movement in both feet by the ankles, starting to get press in my legs, bring my knees up (mostly right), feel and use my obliques and abs, continue to gain feeling in my legs, and increase muscle spasms. I give motivational talks to businesses, schools, triathlon clubs, and graduations. I enjoy sharing the journey that I am on and making people aware of the hope and opportunity in recovery as well as encouraging others that they can go for their dreams/goals even when facing challenges. My ability to share ideas with other people is expanding. Recently I was asked to speak at Cal State Long Beach to 50 students in Recreational Therapy classes. My PE background and current sports program gives me an ideal position to share with them the ideas of helping challenged people in becoming successful in sports. On May 30, had the privilege of speaking for the graduation of my first students when I taught in Hawaii. It was GREAT to see them all and I am very proud of them! I also just shared my story with 3rd graders in Carlsbad. They take everything in more than you think and were just so excited. It is like you are really a celebrity to them. Triathlon training has just started picking up again after healing two small sores on my bottom ? The Challenged Athletes Foundation just sent me to Texas to participate in a relay team in which I did the 1.2 mile swim. It was great learning from the top handcycle ironman triathletes. Thank-you CAF for the opportunity. I am looking forward to a potentially great racing season. Once again, thank-you for visiting my recovery site. Your donations continue further support for my recovery. You give me the opportunity to travel to races and show others and myself that I can still go for my dreams and help smooth the path for other athletes. May God continue to bless you and to bless me. Thank-you!
