| In 2007 I ran the Philadelphia marathon as my first race ever. I was inspired , when I saw all kinds of runners racing for a cause or in memory of someone on the news, covering the broad street run in 07. My father in law had just passed less then a year ago, and I wanted to join these runners to race for a cause. When I decided to run the Philadephia marathon I could barely run a mile. Within 6 months I went from a couch potato to a marathoner. Already during the race I knew , that I will be back, and that I can do better. I was hooked. 1 year after Philadelphia I qualified for Boston, the following year I broke 3 hours and last year I finshed 2nd place Masters at the Steamtown marathon with a PR of 2:46:28. What a journey it has been, endless hours on my legs. Running has changed my life, made me a better person, husband and father. I owe a lot to the sport. I'm so greatful to be healthy and to be able to follow my passion for running. To celebrate my 5th anniversay of running the Philadelphia marathon I would like to raise funds for the HCM foundation, which is a local charity that helps cancer patients and their families. Instead of funding research they help by providing assistance with rent, food, medication and scholarships. This is a great charity founded by a young and energetic guy who lost his father to cancer when he was a young boy. We will celebrate post race at the Manayunk brewery 1:00PM after the the marathon. I'll buy every contributor and every runner who PRed a beer :-).
I thank you for your support and your contribution. |
