| Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in United States men, accounting for 33% of cases. Of the over 1.4 million Americans diagnosed with cancer this year, some 218,820 will have prostate cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, over 27,000 men will die of prostate cancer this year, making prostate cancer the second leading cause of cancer death in men. African American men have a higher incidence of and mortality from prostate cancer.
Funds raised through last year's event contributed significantly to the Comprehensive Prostate Cancer Program being able to provide over 150 free prostate cancer screening exams to men in need and we have reached over 500 men with prostate cancer education and outreach materials. The demand for education and free screening services increases each year, and we have already seen a 150% increase in the number of needed free prostate cancer screening clinics. |
