Thank you for considering to contribute to this cause. Colon cancer robbed my family of my grandmother five years ago when she was still in her sixties. It came on fast and strong, and then suddenly she was gone. I'll never forget the last time I saw her in the hospital. She could hardly talk, hear or see, let alone move, but when she knew I was leaving, she lunged forward in her bed to blow me a kiss goodbye, as she had done so many times when I unwillingly left her house as a child. Leaving the hospital that day was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life.
Looking back now, it's hard to believe my grandmother was human. She always seemed infallible and (at the times you'd least want her to be) omniscient. Her energy and genuine enthusiasm with children was unequivocal.
I am participating in this event to increase colon cancer awareness and help prevent others from losing great people in their lives, like Grandma Kay was in mine. If you are able, please contribute to or participate in this event to help this cause.
Thank you for your fundraising efforts to support the Chicago Get Your Rear in Gear 5K Walk/Run presented by the Colon Cancer Coalition. Funds raised in Chicago are used to increase awareness, provide screening to those with financial barriers and provide local support to those affected by the disease.
