In April of 2008, my father, Patrick Artz, was diagnosed with stage IV Colon Cancer. My mind flooded with fear and uncertainty as I thought about the upcoming months. My family remained optimistic and hopeful through numerous chemotherapy treatments, hospital visits, and surgeries. My dad continued to fight and be the rock for my entire family even on his weakest days. However, the time came where the treatments stopped working and my dad couldn’t fight any longer. Eighteen months after his diagnosis, on October 10, 2009, my father lost his very courageous battle with colon cancer.
It just so happened that my mom came across this 5K run/walk, Get your Rear in Gear, on October 9, 2010 - the day before the one year anniversary of my dad's death. Cancer connects us all but it is in our responses that we are truly united. It's time to make a difference and stand up to cancer. Together we can put an end to this awful disease and spare our loved ones of ever having to deal with what my dad and so many others have had to endure in their lifetime. Your donation will help the Colon Cancer Coalition bring awareness to the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States as well as informing and encouraging individuals to get screened.
Total Donations Collected:$2,010.00
Thank you for your fundraising efforts to support the Austin Get Your Rear in Gear Walk/Run presented by the Colon Cancer Coalition. Funds raised in Austin are used to increase awareness, provide screening to those with financial barriers and provide local support to those affected by the disease.
