| Two years ago, one of my dreams came true, as I was able to live and work in New York City during my time on One Life to Live. Since my story ended in June of this year, I have returned to Los Angeles to continue my career. On Sunday, November 7th, I will return for the first time back to NYC, to complete another dream of mine, the NYC Marathon. I have been a runner my whole life, and have always had aspirations to complete the 26.2
mile journey. But after two knee surgeries, years of
complacency and the pursuit of other dreams, I found myself
further away from my goal than ever. Enter inspiration.
I am not sure if any of you are aware of Ethan Zohn's
story, but I will try to do him justice in this quick
synopsis. In 2002, Ethan won Survivor: Africa, and
subsequently started a charity called Grassroots Soccer
(grassrootsoccer.org), which promotes HIV/AIDS awareness in
Africa through soccer. It is an incredible organization
which has educated thousands of African youths and
established programs in countries such as South Africa,
Zimbabwe, Zambia, Liberia, Sudan, Ethiopia to name a few. I
had the privilege of meeting him in NYC through some mutual
soccer friends, and during time spent on the field and off,
developed a friendship with him. In September 2009, after
already battling the disease once, Ethan was diagnosed yet
again with Hodgkins lymphoma, and underwent new treatments.
In April, he overcame adversity yet again and announced that
he had received a clean CT scan, and the cancer was in
remission. Now, after winning the battle of Survivor and
his battle against cancer, he will attempt to accomplish this same dream of his own. The NYC marathon.
I am looking forward to literally following in his footsteps as I join him and his team as we navigate the five boroughs of NYC to raise money for Grassroots Soccer. I have been training for 3 months, and am excited about running through this city that I grew to love so much over the last two years. If you know me at all, then you know my affinity for the game of soccer, and GRS is doing some very positive things for so many children who have been affected on the African continent. I have pledged to run the marathon to help raise
money and awareness for GRS, and with all of your help, I hope that I can assist them in meeting their $200,000 goal. Please
feel free to go to their website, http://www.grassrootsoccer.org,
and take a peek at the beautiful work they are doing overseas. Whether $25, $50, $100 or more, your contribution will go directly to educating African youths on building better basic life skills and encouraging healthier behaviors in order to successfully liveHIV free. The AIDS virus has been an epidemic all over our globe, especially in Africa, and with your help, we can make a difference to thousands of children who just simply need a
few people to care. |

| Grassroot Soccer's (GRS) mission is to educate, inspire and mobilize youth to stop the spread of HIV.
The GRS Marathon Team's goal is to educate 8,000 more youth by raising $200,000 by December 1, 2010. You can help them smash this goal because it only takes $25 to provide effective HIV-prevention to one youth.
GRS is a registered 501c3 organization. We are committed to being worthy stewards of all funds received to provide the best possible HIV prevention programs.
