Girls on the RunĀ® (GOTR) Nashville and Girls on TrackĀ® (GOT) Nashville are 12-week after school programs for 3rd through 8th grade girls, which use the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
During our sessions, girls participate in an active curriculum designed to teach specific life lessons such as resisting peer pressure and making healthy decisions. Girls are empowered with a strong sense of identity; they learn to give and receive support from their peers, to stand up for themselves in a healthy manner, and to understand their importance in the community.
In addition to lessons, the girls train for a 5k (3.1 mile) race and complete a service project.
Over the past three years, Girls on the Run Nashville has grown from a single program serving 15 girls to ten programs reaching 120 young ladies in Davidson, Sumner and Williamson counties. Demand for expansion has continually outstripped our resources, but it is our mission to reach as many girls as possible. We anticipate serving 336 girls in 2011; approximately half of those girls will require scholarships in order to participate. Your support at this time is particularly important.
As a non-profit, volunteer-based organization, our success depends on the generosity of others. We would like to thank you for your contribution. We can't make a difference without you!
