|Do you wish a program that talks to girls about self-respect and healthy living had been available when you were growing up? Girls on the Run of Greater Summit is a 10-week after school program for girls in 3rd-8th grade, that uses the power of running to do just that.|
Our programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting discussions and workouts. The goal of Girls on the Run is to teach girls positive life-lessons that will give them the tools to make healthy decisions and form healthy self-images so they can live life according to their own values.
“To educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.”
Girls on the Run delivers messages of empowerment to young girls through GOTR-trained volunteer coaches and mentors. Our 10-week character building program teaches specific and well-defined social and personal skills. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5K run event which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. How Your Gift Can Help:
Support our commitment to the development of young girls in our community! We are a non-profit organization supported by the Greater Akron/Cleveland community. No girls are turned away from the program due to financial need and nearly 50% participate on partial to full scholarships. Your gift to Girls on the Run of Greater Summit will enable us to empower ALL young girls to believe in themselves and embrace their full potential as they become young adults. Girls on the Run also has a charity running program called SoleMates® in which male and female athletes raise money while pursuing individual goals. For more information on SoleMates®,visit www.girlsontherunsolemates.org.
