|Unforeseen financial emergencies are a key reason why students drop out of school. Durham Tech is one of thirty-one community colleges nationwide chosen to administer Dreamkeepers, a program that helps students facing short-term, unforeseen emergencies by providing much-needed financial assistance, along with financial planning tools and access to other local, state, and federal resources.|
Less than $500 can make the difference between earning a degree and dropping out.
Since its inception at Durham Tech in January of 2005, nearly 150 students have received some type of assistance from Dreamkeepers. Over 75% have enrolled the semester after receiving aid, and close to half have completed a degree, diploma, or certificate.
Our team is participating in the Great Human Race 2012 to raise $3,000 for Dreamkeepers. This money will be matched dollar for dollar by a grant from Scholarship America. With your gift, we can continue to help students in crisis finish their educational goals.
$30 = Monthly bus pass for a student whose car has broken down
$50 = One-time heating bill payment for a student who has to choose between buying books or staying warm
$100= One month's food voucher to feed the family of a student who has lost income due to an injury
$500= One month of childcare for a single mother whose work hours have been cut
