| On March 21, more than 1,000 people will come together in Durham’s Great Human Race to support more than 80 local non-profits -- organizations that nurture and enrich our community in so many ways. It’s a celebration of giving and service, and a great reminder of the community spirit that thrives in Durham!
Team George Watts will be there to raise money for our school. Will you support us with your donation? Even better, will you walk with us? Bring the whole family for a morning of fun, low-impact exercise!
WHAT IS THE GREAT HUMAN RACE?
* Fundraiser. The Great Human Race is an annual fundraiser for local non-profits and schools, organized by the Volunteer Center of Durham. In 2008 participants raised more than $150,000!
* 5K walk/run. The course starts at the Durham Bulls stadium and meanders through beautiful, newly renovated Downtown Durham.
* LOTS OF FUN! Last year, Coach B and Lower El teacher Ms. Davis represented George Watts and had a BLAST!
HOW WILL THE SCHOOL BENEFIT?
* The PTA's goal is to raise $2,000 for George Watts, through donations from people like you.
* The PTA will put this money towards recurring needs such as: classroom materials ... books ... field trip subsidies
* PLUS it can help fund some exciting new outdoor projects the PTA is working on: an Edible Schoolyard and a new walking/exercise track.
HOW DO I HELP?
* WALK with Team George Watts on March 21. The race begins at 9:30 am. You’ll join other teachers and families for a fun time in Downtown Durham, and you’ll even get a special Team George Watts goodie bag! Ask your friends and relatives to support you by making a donation or even joining you on March 21. It doesn’t matter whether you raise a little or a lot -- just put on your shoes and walk with us!!
Please let us know you’re coming via email (wattsptaboard@gmail.com) or a note in your child’s folder.
* DONATE. Whether or not you walk, please considering making a pledge to support George Watts and the walkers. Every gift, no matter how small, will help our school!
