I have developed this page to help raise money for the 2012 Getting2Tri National Paratriathlon Training Camp and the Joint Services Paratriathlon Training Camp.....specifically for wounded veterans. Mike Lenhart, one of my training buddies, started this organization six years ago to change the lives of people with disabilities through a program that develops hopes, dreams, new physical skills, camaraderie and greater sense of optimism about the future.
This organization personally impacted me two years ago when I was asked to be the keynote speaker at the training camp awards banquet. I got to see and hear first-hand how having a dream, goal or purpose helped to change many of the participants’ perspectives from an “I CAN’T” to an “I CAN”. Learning to compete in sports becomes the vehicle for helping many of the participants learn to live more meaningful, healthy lives.
The 2011 National Paratriathlon Training Camp held in Atlanta in May was able to serve athletes from across the country and was supported by over 100 volunteers, coaches, mentors and technical advisers for this 3-day event. In 2012, G2T is expanding by adding a second camp dedicated specifically to serving wounded veterans.
I will be competing in the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on October 8th, my 60th birthday, and would like to use this special day to help make a difference for people who are trying to overcome significant physically challenges.
