As most of you are aware, 2010 was a very difficult year for our family. While it is never easy to lose someone you love, Don's unexpected death in the prime of his life was devastating for so many of us. This loss has been especially challenging for Grace and Luke, who now face a future without their dad's love and support. It is hard to explain to a child why these things happen when adults do not themselves understand.

Thankfully, we quickly became connected with Kate's Club, an organization dedicated to helping kids who have lost a parent or sibling. In Grace's words, "My brother and I love Kate's Club. It helps us know that we are not alone when we grieve. We don't have to explain how we feel -- they just know. We talk about our memories and support each other. It has really helped me deal with the loss of my dad."

We hope you will consider supporting "Team Hensel" as Grace, Luke and I walk in GeneRACEtion on May 21, 2011 to raise money for Kate's Club. We invite you to either walk or run with us on the 21st or to make a pledge in honor of our team. Kate's Club is totally supported by donations; no child is ever asked to pay for any of the support that is provided. It has been an important lifeline for our family in the last several months. We can think of no better way to honor Don than to ensure that kids in the club no one wants to join will continue to benefit from its services.
