| Friends of the Poor - Africa |
|
Friends of the Poor is a non-denominational service organization that works in partnership with relief workers in various parts of the world to provide necessary funds, material goods, medicines and food to aid in the alleviation of poverty and suffering.
In 1998, Jean Colarusso, President of Friends of the Poor, began organizing the first of many missions in Africa. Missions that have successfully resulted in the completion of
- a boys’ school
- a cathedral
- a home for widows and orphans
- an internet café providing access for 500 students
- an AIDS/HIV Clinic and Hospice Center
With the increasing needs of the various missions in Africa, Friends of the Poor-Africa is focusing efforts to provide the necessary support.
Friends of Africa is a supportive branch of Friends of the Poor-Africa. Our mission is to bring awareness to the community of all that Friends of the Poor is doing in Africa and to help raise funds to complete these important projects.
Our most recent project is the Dr. William Kupiec Academy for Girls. It is our goal to create a campus that provides opportunity for young Nigerian women to pursue an education for grades 7-12. Typically, Nigerian girls are educated only up to the 6th grade. It is our firm belief that the education of Nigeria's girls is a large part of the solution to alleviating poverty and the spread of disease, such as AIDS and malaria, in Africa's most populous country. The Dr. William Kupiec Academy for Girls will provide a place where up to 400 girls can achieve academic excellence and go on to improve the condition of their country.
This is Friends of the Poor's most ambitious project yet. The construction and endowment of the Dr. William Kupiec Academy for Girls will be funded as our other projects have been--through the donations of generous people who believe they can make a difference. It is important to note that 98% of donations go directly to the Friends of the Poor (less than 2% is spent on administrative costs). Won't you please help make a difference to the lives of young girls in Nigeria? |
