| In April of last year, Shane’s two-year old nephew, Kristian, was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome - a potentially devastating kidney disease which damages the kidneys' filtration system and can lead to kidney failure. To date, there is no known cause and no common treatment for this disease. I hope that you will help me in raising money for The NephCure Foundation in effort to find a cure.
On Sunday, March 21st, I am running the Ballycotton 10 (10 mile road run in East Cork) in order to raise funds for NephCure, with the hope that they will eventually find a cure for this disease.
The NephCure Foundation is the only organization committed exclusively to supporting research seeking a cause and a cure for NS and FSGS. In recent years, NephCure committed to $6 million in research and is supporting studies on a global arena. Learn more at nephcure.org
Nephrotic Syndrome, and a more severe form of this disease known as Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) affects the kidney function and can lead to kidney failure. The cause is unknown and there is no known cure. FSGS is the second leading cause of children on dialysis. If treatment with steroids and other medications fails, patients endure dialysis treatments and may require a transplant. And a transplant is not always the answer; FSGS can attack the new kidney post-transplant, often within hours or weeks. Join me in the fights against NS and FSGS! |
