Stairs, staircase, stairway, stairwell, and flight of stairs are all names for a construction designed to bridge a large vertical distance by dividing it into smaller vertical distances, called steps (from wikipedia)...
On Sunday, March 4, 2007, I will join fire-fighters from all over the world to climb the 1311 stairs in the Columbia Tower in full turn-out gear. Funds raised go to support the important work of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This is a personal challenge, a commitment to the strength, endurance and teamwork that is essential in the fire service, and an opportunity to raise funds for an excellent organization. Please visit my Training Journal for updates and pictures Ande's LiveJournal I appreciate the support and encouragement of friends, family and fellow fire-fighters. Thank you all. ~~Ande

About the Event
At 788 feet of vertical elevation, the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle stands as the second tallest building west of the Mississippi. It takes 69 flights of stairs and 1,311 steps to reach the highly acclaimed observation deck overlooking the city. On Sunday, March 4th firefighters will race up the stairs in full fire gear and SCBA to help raise funds and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This year we expect over 1,400 firefighters from 180 departments to compete in the event, once again making the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb the largest single firefighting competition in the world.
