Please Help Us Raise Money for Blood Cancer Research!
Help us honor two very special people and the 800,000+ patients currently battling blood cancers.
My name is Jennifer Dunleavy, and I am a small business owner in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. I am honored to support this annual fundraising campaign for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by leading a team that is raising money and awareness for blood cancer research and patient support services. This year, we are dedicating our efforts in honor of two very special people.

Our Plan:

Raise $50,000 so that the family of Lee Davis will receive naming rights for a research project!

Please help us achieve this goal by making a donation and forwarding this website to your family, friends and colleagues! All donations are tax deductible, and will be accepted through June 4th at 5PM.

Finding a cure for blood cancers is now more critical than ever. Here's why we need your help:

-Over 800,000 Americans are currently battling leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease or myeloma.

-Every 5 minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer.

-Every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer.

My motivation: Upon receiving the call to action, I sadly remembered losing a customer and friend to multiple myeloma in 2006. Therefore, our team is dedicating its efforts in honor of two very special people:

Lee Roy Davis (in memoriam) – I had the pleasure of meeting Lee in 2000, and supported Lee and his team in early 2001 as a vendor. In the years to follow, Lee was not just my customer, but a friend as well. Lee served GlaxoSmithKline for 20 years in a variety of financial leadership roles, most recently as Finance Manager for Genetics Research in the company’s Research & Development area. Lee was respected and loved by many for his talent, leadership, superior ethics and his sincere concern for others. Lee also shared a love of sports, and was a starter on the TC Williams Titans Football team (as featured in the movie "Remember the Titans" with Denzel Washington). After earning an academic scholarship to Duke University, Lee played for the Duke football team for all four years during college, during which he earned a full athletic scholarship. Lee was also awarded a scholarship to Mercer University, where he earned his MBA in 1979. Lee actively and loyally served his community, as Board Member and Treasurer of the North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research and as a Deacon and Youth Minister at Wake Chapel Church in Raleigh. We were all saddened to learn Lee’s diagnosis in 2006, and we grieved his loss in July of that same year. For everyone that knew him, Lee was an outstanding example in work ethic, integrity and faith. With the blessing of his wife, Scarlette, his family and his friends, my team and I are honored to raise money for this important cause in honor of Lee's memory.

Will Duncan ("Boy of the Year") – Will is a bright and active 5 year-old boy from Clayton, North Carolina. Will has been named “Boy of the Year” by the Society's local chapter and inspires hope during this campaign. Since his diagnosis with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) in 2006, Will and his family have greatly benefited from the research and medical advancements made through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s work. Will’s doctors currently consider him in remission, and expect his treatments to be complete in late 2009. Will’s story represents the hope of future advancements made through research and the difference each of us can make. Since the Society’s inception in 1949, the 5-year survival rate for children with ALL has increased from 4% to 85%. Unfortunately, there is much left to do. Blood cancers will strike an estimated 135,520 Americans this year and result in 52,310 deaths. Your help is greatly needed!

Please join me in this fight and support this important work. Together, we can work towards a cure for all blood cancers!

If you wish to make a donation, your donation is tax-deductible and will support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society programs, including research, patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services. (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Tax ID: 13-564-4916)

Does your company offer an employee-matching program on tax-deductible donations?
