2008 Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure®
We Can All Make a Difference!
Help us raise funds to end breast cancer forever. Become a Friend for the Cure.

Welcome to the 2008 Susan G. Komen Detroit Race For the Cure ®, presented locally by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Fundraising is essential to win the race against breast cancer - to find a cure for this disease that touches so many of us. Come join us as a Race fundraiser and become one of our Friends for the Cure ®. Please read-on for details.

Who are we? Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, Komen for the Cure is an international organization with a network of more than 75,000 volunteers working through local Affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure ® to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners and generous donors, including the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute based here in Detroit, Michigan, Komen for the Cure has invested $1 billion in the fight against breast cancer.

How is money spent? Up to 75% of the net income from each Race stays in the local community to fund local breast cancer screening, treatment and education programs. A minimum of 25% of the net income from each Race supports the Komen Award and Research Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational, scientific and community outreach programs around the world.
