| On a seemingly normal day the mother of my soon to be sons went to the doctor for a normal checkup on the status of our soon to be twin boys. That visit resulted in a series of events that would change my life forever. It was discovered that at 21 weeks of gestation preterm labor had started. This resulted in hospitalization and complete bed rest. The journey had just begun and at 28 weeks two baby boys being born with each one weighing under 3 pounds. The next 4 weeks were an indescribable series of events where the twins and doctors fought to keep them alive.
The experience of watching them frequently stop breathing, brain bleeds, transfusions and countless other complications was more than that any person should have to endure.
They are two miracles that made it through an incredibly hard set of circumstances. This is why I conduct cycling events. It is a means of raising money to donate to March of Dimes so that the issues around premature births can be addressed and hopefully one day not one more person has to experience this most difficult situation. |
