ON YOUR MARK. GET SET. GO!
CYC is once again a Charity Partner in the 2009 Colorado Colfax Marthon coming up Sunday, May 17th. CYC is actively recruiting runners, walkers, donors and volunteers to help us meet our goal of raising $30,000!
Here’s what you can do:
1. Participate in the race. You can walk or run the full or half marathon, or run a five person marathon relay. Click Colorado Colfax Marathon to find out more about the race routes and register. Be sure to choose CYC as your charity partner!
As a CYC runner you can either:
-
Raise $100 for CYC and receive a water bottle
-
Raise $250 as an individual or $1,000 as a relay team of five and receive a high-quality running jersey
Build your own personalized fundraising site by clicking the right hand side of this page.
2. Become a donor. You can make a gift to CYC in ANY AMOUNT, support a registered runner, walker or team, or become a fundraiser and get others involved. Search for and choose your favorite fundraiser right here to make a donation or use the Make a Contribution box to the right.
3. Become a volunteer. Volunteers are needed to staff the CYC agency booth the weekend of the Marathon and help CYC maintain a presence with the thousands of people who walk past the booth. Volunteers help with prize drawings, mailing list completion, volunteer recruitment and agency public relations. Email Stan Lankowitz for more information about volunteering. For any other questions about the CYC Marathon Campaign, email Steve Dobo or call Steve at (303) 619-5276.
In school year 2005-2006, over 4,000 students dropped out of Denver Public Schools. For the first time in Colorado’s history, students are less likely to graduate high school than their parents (Colorado Department of Education, 2009).
CYC’s programs target students who have left school and also those at significant risk of dropping out of school due to 9th grade retention and failing math and reading scores. In 2008, the agency served 414 young people.
Program results for 2007-2008 school year demonstrated: - Of the 77 students participating in the West High Dropout Intervention Program, and 99% increased their Algebra grade average through the year.
- Of the 337 youth served through the Dropout Outreach and Recovery Program, 62% were helped in returning to a high school or GED program. |
