Man & Woman of the Year
I have been nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year. I am very excited about this honor and truly feel this is my opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people affected by leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma throughout our community.
I first became involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society when training to run a marathon with the Team in Training. Throughout my fundraising, I’ve heard numerous inspirational stories that made me realize how positive attitudes can help during difficult times.
When I run the marathon on April 26, I will keep these stories in my heart of those that fought to survive and also those that unfortunatley passed away. I am participating in the Woman of the Year competition to challenge myself to raise as much money as possible for those that are still fighting blood cancers, and the many will be diagnosed in the future. With your help, we can find a cure.
Donations
I ask that you join me by making a contribution to my fundraising campaign. Each dollar I raise counts as one vote and the candidate who gets the most donations is named our local Man or Woman of the Year.
Your donation can help:
* $500 provides research for finding a cure
* $100 covers transportation from the cancer center
* $75 provides bone marrow typing for a family member
* $50 registers one person to be a bone marrow donor
* $25 pays the cost of prescription drug's copay
Boy and Girl of the Year
I am raising money in honor of survivors Michael Patrick Wren and Eliza Bourg.
I met Michael when he was our honored hero for Team in Training. He is six years old and was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in March 2005. He has been in remission for two years and has recovered from a bone marrow transplant. He amazes me with his intelligence and one thing I've learned is that he LOVES video games! He has been very supportive during my marathon training.
Eliza is also six years old and was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia in January 2006. She is currently undergoing maintenance therapy and her anticipated end of treatment is May 15, 2008. Eliza recently started first grade and loves school. She enjoys playing with her dolls, bugging her mommy, playing with her friends, and shopping.
