I was recently nominated as a candidate in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2008 Man & Woman of the Year campaign. By accepting this honor, I am making a commitment over the next ten weeks to raise money for the Society and join the ranks of those dedicated to winning the battle against leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
There are approximately 786,000 Americans currently living with one of the blood cancers. Every five minutes, someone new is diagnosed. Every ten minutes, someone dies. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers and incidence increases with age.
The main reason for my joining the fight against these cancers is the diagnosis of my best friends wife Annmarie. She was diagnosed in December of 2003 with Leukemia (AML). She has undergone numerous rounds of chemo and has had two transplants. Seeing her fight this battle has made me want to fight to find a cure. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was seven and have directly benefited from fundraisers like this one, and now it is my turn to pay it forward.
Please join me in the fight against the blood cancers. I am asking that you make a generous tax-deductible contribution to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000 for the Society through the Man & Woman of the Year Campaign. Please make your check payable to “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society” and return it to me in the enclosed envelope by May 5th, 2008. If your company has a matching gifts program, please take advantage of it to maximize the value of your contribution. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society carries a 501 (C) (3) status granted by the IRS. Contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by the law.
Thank you in advance for joining in what are truly life saving efforts. Regardless of the outcome, we can all share in the satisfaction of knowing that we are making a positive difference in the lives of those afflicted by these terrible diseases.
Sincerely,
