Burt is a miniature donkey. He was used for breeding most of his life. Now he lives happily with his best friend Rowdy at Ching Rescue.
At Ching Farm Animal Rescue and Sanctuary we fill a need in the Salt Lake Valley to rescue farm and other exotic animals. Many of the animals have been rescued from laboratory testing, slaughter or were companion animals to people who were not living in an area zoned for farm animals. The sanctuary was founded by Faith and Mike Ching in Utah in 1998. The farm is incorporated as Ching Farm Rescue as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and your donations are tax-deductible.
All of the work at the rescue is done by volunteers, with the exception of the occasional paid veterinarian. We have no paid staff and we receive no government funding. Our funding comes from donations and often times from Faith and Mike’s own pockets. We’ve created the 5k to help with fundraising so that they are not left with the entire financial burden.
At Ching Rescue, we offer a one-year sponsorship of an animal for $180. We do this to make it affordable for people to sponsor an animal but the reality is that it costs a lot more than that a year to feed and care for a large animal like Burt.
The walk will take place August 8, 2009 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. Please register online by August 1, 2009. Day of registration will be available at 7 am. The race starts at 8 am.
