A Running Start
2006 Walt Disney World Marathon, finally breaking four hours, 3:53:49.
Hello, my name is Peter and I am a runner in the DC area. I have been running since 2000, and it has changed my life. Now I want to help change the lives of others by raising money for the charity A Running Start so it can perform its mission of using the power of sports to improve the lives of young East Africans.

In this impoverished geographic area that is home to the world's greatest store of running talent, A Running Start seeks to harness this talent in order to allow more East Africans to earn a U.S. university education from their athletic gift, to leverage sports to inspire local children to stay in school and to enable more talented young athletes to earn a living from sport.

To help in this cause, I have pledged to raise $500 or more for A Running Start by running in the Chicago Marathon on October 7, 2007. Please show your support of my effort by pledging $1 or $2 or more for each mile I run. I WILL run 26.2 miles on October 7th.

Chicago will be my fifteenth marathon, but my first one running for charity.

I have always admired marathoners who run in support of a cause. I am very excited to participate in such a great event as the Chicago Marathon, both for myself and for such a great cause.

Three of my marathons have taken me over five hours to complete, and I have done three marathons in under four hours. I will do the best I can at the Chicago Marathon.

Please help me by making a pledge.

Thank you.

4:34:06 FIN. The race was cancelled three and a half hours into it due to record heat. I finished, with a little help from Ashley who brought me ice and then ran the last two miles with me, encouraging me on. Tragically, one runner perished and hundreds were sickened by the heat. Thank you all for your support.
