Thank you for visiting the Chaz Griffin Family Fund support site. As you know, Chaz was stricken by Guillain-Barre Syndrome , which has confined him to a hospital bed in which we hope is only a temporary state of paralysis. There is no known cure at this time, so doctors are scrambling to figure out the best approach for treating Chaz. Since the prognosis is unknown at this time, we are asking for support to help the family cope with expenses that are mounting each day. Chaz and his wife Sunya have three children, Palia, Shane & Kiera.
Friends of Chaz,
Here's an update after 20+ days in the hospital. Chaz was moved today to Sharp hospital for Acute re-hab; a much better environment for him and he's now much happier. He will receive intensive care and exercise, and he's looking forward to it.
His legs are still the same with little movement, but he does have a little more in his arms. The biggest improvement is in his speech and jaw and we think that he will now be able to eat better and is in a much better frame of mind. His awful bedpan days are over. He can even shower occasionally. We are very fortunate to have Chaz re-habing at a place where club member Karen Gaar’s husband has a very high position and club member Lisa Baumgarth is a therapist. Chaz is in great hands.
The re-hab hospital is near the kids school. It is surrounded by a rose garden that is maintained by one of the nurses at the hospital.
The re-hab doctors are unsure how long he will be in there. But at least two weeks. When he finally does get home he will still have a great deal of re-hab ahead of him. You can hear many estimates for recovery, obviously we hope for the best and we expect Chaz to really work at it.
We really appreciate the support of our extended family, you have all been wonderful for Chaz and we have all learnt a lot about Guillian Barre as well as life in general.
Best wishes and thanks , the Griffins
We thank you for your support. |
