Sending a child to camp can provide the experience of a lifetime! Just ask Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. After taking office in 2002, Marty began an initiative very dear to him personally – sending underprivileged kids to sleep-away camp. Thanks, in large part, to the money raised at last year’s event, Camp Brooklyn arranged for over 400 children to attend accredited camps this past summer, far surpassing all previous years.

We are so delighted to report that Camp Brooklyn (formally an initiative of Best of Brooklyn, Inc.) is now its own not-for-profit corporation. Next summer, with your help, we will significantly increase the number of Brooklyn children sent to camp who have no financial means to get there – enabling them to get out of the city, away from the concrete and asphalt, the gangs, the influence of drugs and into an abundance of grass, trees, and open spaces.

Please join us on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, as Marty and Jamie Markowitz host the 20th Anniversary of the Mickey Mantle’s Community Service Award at Mickey Mantle’s Restaurant, to benefit Camp Brooklyn.
