Started by Cynthia Renn, Chair of the BSO Governing Members Membership Committee and avid fan of the BSO, Bolt for the BSO is a fun, healthy and innovative way to increase support of the BSO while increasing awareness of music in Baltimore. The Baltimore community has embraced the BSO with generous support through ticket purchases and donations. As the BSO gears up for what is sure to be an exciting new season in 2010-2011, we invite you to join us as a runner or a sponsor. We are asking that each runner gathers sponsors (e.g. $1 per mile, or a flat donation) to raise money for the BSO. To participate, we ask that each runner contribute a minimum of $100 in sponsorship. As an added incentive, the highest fundraiser will be invited to dine with the musician of their choice.

So, what does running have to do with music, especially a world-class orchestra? Runners and musicians share some important common bonds, most importantly passion, hard work, and dedication to their goals. Just as runners cannot race in a marathon the same week they begin training, musicians must begin their musical study by building a strong foundation through years of practice before competing in an audition. When it is time for both runners and musicians to perform, they can picture every turn , or hear every note as if it was reality. The performances of their lives are a culmination of time, sacrifice, and great heart. Most importantly, after the medals have been awarded and the stage has been cleared, both runners and musicians will tell you that what they do is not just a job or hobby; it is a lifestyle.
