| Bette's Run |
|
| In October, I'll be doing something I love in a place that I love: running a marathon in my favorite part of Maine. The Mount Desert Island marathon is a hilly, challenging course, but not nearly as challenging as going through cancer treatment. That's why I'm running in support of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, a center that provides emotional and educational support to people facing the challenges of cancer treatment in this region of Maine. As a three-year survivor of Stage 3 breast cancer I know first hand how important it is to find the right kind of support during treatment--and afterwards. By running this marathon, I am hoping not only to raise funds for the center but also to offer some hope and encouragement to those in the midst of treatment. Whether the struggle is to get out of bed, make it to the next chemo treatment, walk to the mailbox, or run a marathon, it means putting one foot in front of the other-- taking one step at a time, however large or small, fast or slow, will take you forward... |
