| Nearly 1000 Miles and over One Million Strides to
Brake the Cycle of Poverty
What can be done as Poverty impacts 37 million people in the United States?
Can our small efforts make a difference in helping people ‘Brake the Cycle of Poverty’?
Can we be a voice or advocate for people living in the poverty condition nationally or where we work or call home?
Join Charlie Chatterton as he attempts to combine two of his passions, promoting physical activity and his concern for people living in poverty in the US. What began as a goal to run four marathons to raise awareness to the poverty condition in the US and to raise funds for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the domestic, anti-poverty program of US Catholic Church, ended with six marathons, $2646.00 raised and the desire to continue his efforts to make a difference.
With that in mind, a new goal of completing 38 marathons over the next few years (counting the six from last year?) was created. Each of the first 37 marathons will represent one million US citizens who live in the poverty condition. These marathons will add up to 37 million people, the total number of US citizens living in the poverty condition in the US. The final, the 38th marathon, is for good measure and will be dedicated to not only the 37 million people living in poverty, but to all individuals who may earn more than the federal poverty line ($20,000 for a family of four), but fall far below what would be considered a ‘living wage’.
How can you THINK ABOUT IT, TALK ABOUT IT, and TAKE ACTION against poverty as Charlie runs 1000 miles (995.6 miles officially – he’ll try to squeeze in an additional 4.4 miles over the 38 marathons?) and takes over One Million Strides to help Brake the Cycle of Poverty?
