Please join John Bingham Racing at the Arizona Distance Classic as we turn the Valley of Gold Half Marathon and Northwest Medical Center 5K into a celebratory event raising money, support and funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. The Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
John has been the national spokesperson for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program since 2000. Since 1988, more than 295,000 volunteer Team in Training participants have helped raise more than $660 million in the fight against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma research and for patient services.
The need is critical: More than 712,000 Americans have leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. Every five minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age 20. Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers and incidence increases with age. The survival rate for myeloma is only 32.1 percent. Incidence is twice as high among African Americans as for all other races.
