| An 8 year survivor of MM, Hal appreciates the support of family, friends, shipmates and classmates of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of '64. After a career in submarines, Captain Anderson retired from active duty in 1991, but wore his uniform another 5 years as Naval Science Instructor at Whitney Young Magnet High School in Chicago. He was diagnosed stage III in 1998 with an 80% tumor burden after suffering multiple compression fractures of his lower spine. After 8 cycles of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant in 1999, he enjoyed over 3 years of remission before relapsing in 2004. He has been taking thalidomide as necessary to keep his myeloma under control and continues to enjoy life and relatively good health.
Hal is grateful to be able to participate in his 6th annual Race for Research 5K Walk in Chicago and thanks you for your support of myeloma research. |
