| a Journey for 9/11 |
|
| Moved from the events of September 11th, 2001, retired New York Football Giants George Martin decided to use his “celebrity” from his 14 years of playing professional football to help raise funds for those individuals suffering from their selfless efforts as rescue and recovery workers from Ground Zero.
For the selfless efforts of the rescue and recover workers, George founded a Journey for 9/11. Journey is the ongoing nationwide initiative to raise awareness about and funds to help mitigate the serious medical conditions (including chronic bronchial disease, leukemia and other cancers, and post traumatic stress disorder) faced by thousands of 9/11 rescue and recovery workers who are now ill as a direct result of their service at Ground Zero.
From September 16, 2007, to June 21, 2008, George traversed on foot 3,000+ miles and raised more than $2 million matching dollars in the process for this non-profit organization.
On his Journey, George passed through portions of 13 states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. The retired NFL great lost more than 40 pounds during his trek, which he visited schools, fire houses, police stations, government offices, and other places where he raised awareness about the plight of Ground Zero workers.
Please join us for our annual Giant Steps for 9/11 Walk to commemorate GEORGE MARTIN’S
historic walk across america supporting the heroes of ground zero. |
