The goal: Ironman Wisconsin September 13, 2009.
The distance: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run
The motivation: 1.1 billion people without access to clean drinking water
The mission: to raise awareness and funds to help provide clean water resources all over the world
Training for an Ironman distance triathlon is a huge adventure! Ten workouts a week. 5:30am swims before work. Turning down dinner invitations in order get that second workout of the day in. Three hour runs in the rain. Five hour rides in the hot sun. And for what? The accomplishment of a lifetime: becoming an Ironman.
If along this 9 month path, I can raise awareness and maybe some funds for a cause that is to often overlooked, than others will benefit from my becoming an Ironman. And that will be an even bigger accomplishment.
So here I am. A wife, a pharmacist, an athlete and now a member of the active:water organization. Please support the cause by making a tax deductable donation. And spread the word. Tell your family, your friends, your coworkers, the person sitting next to you on the bus. Spread the word about the millions of people who don’t have access to something as simple as clean water. And let them know that they can make a difference. Tell them to visit my website. I will do my part by being a voice at the Ironman Wisconsin 2009 and all the races I will participate in leading up to it. Please do yours.
May the water always be calm, and the wind always at your back.
Thank you!
